Modern Seamed Stockings vs Old Fully Fashioned Stockings

There has been many advertisement that incorrectly named modern seamed stockings as Fully Fashioned Stockings.
In the past stockings were manufactured by cutting the fabric and the two sides are then sewn by hand together forming the seam up the back. These are the true Fully Fashioned Stockings.
Today stockings are generally fully knitted and a fake or mock seam is added up the back for a fashion look. These are the modern seamed hosiery. (As per picture on the right)
The seam of fully-fashioned stockings is an integral part of the stocking and not sewn on afterwards as is the case with more modern seamed stockings.
Fully-fashioned stockings were the most popular style in the 1940s and 1950s. Fully fashioned stockings are made of non-stretch nylon, they are sized to the high and shoe size of the wearer. Modern seamed stockings are made of stretchable nylon, thus it is stretchable.
True Fully Fashioned Stockings are becoming increasingly rare, they are only a handful of manufacturers worldwide who still make genuine fully fashion stockings.
The advantages of wearing a fully fashioned stockings is that they are more stable and the seam will not move around as much. Thus your seam stay straight. They are shaped to the leg and you need to buy the proper size for your leg, else if you stretch them, they will start to slide down. Remember they are made of non-stretch nylon, therefore they are not stretchable.
