The right pair of silk stockings is able to do wonders to your legs appearance, making them look longer and wonderful from any angle. A pair of silk stockings will offer you a daring, mysterious, sensual and elegant feel to your whole look. The question that bugs the mind of silk stocking enthusiasts is how you take care of them so that it will last for a longer period of time.
Bear in mind that pure silk is a natural fabric. Ivory is the natural color that it comes from. When you buy silk stockings of other colors like red, black or beige, they have most likely been undergone through a dyeing process. When you wash them for the first time, it is inevitable that some dye will be lost in the washing.
To avoid snags from occurring, use gloves during the washing process to avoid the silk stocking material from getting caught to your finger nails. Remember that the best time to wash your silk stockings is as soon as after your last wear as perspiration is the silk’s number one enemy. Use only a mild liquid detergent specially formulated for hand washing of delicate fabrics.
Check that the detergent does not contain bleaching agents which is also called oxidizing agents, enzymes or optical brighteners. Avoid powder detergents as they contain bleach. Bleach weakens silk fibres and changes the color. To avoid shrinkage, wash at low temperatures. If your silk stockings have laces, do no attempt to iron on them as fine mesh can melt easily. Never dry your delicate silk stockings in direct sunlight as sunlight has a bleaching effect that can cause the color of you silk stockings to fade.
Take good care of your silk stockings and you will be amazed at how long they can last.
